Chuck Ragan left the band at home when he hit up Oakland's New Parish this past Friday night along with the SoCal-by-way-of-Texas brothers in Pawnshop Kings. The chatter during and after the Pawnshop Kings set evaporated the moment Chuck took the stage, removed his hat and plugged in his guitar for a final tune ... one acoustic guitar and a handful harmonicas were all that was needed for the gravely-voiced Ragan to keep the attention of the few hundred that turned up.

Chuck Ragan left the band at home when he hit up Oakland’s New Parish this past Friday night along with the SoCal-by-way-of-Texas brothers in Pawnshop Kings.  The chatter during and after the Pawnshop Kings set evaporated the moment Chuck took the stage, removed his hat and plugged in his guitar for a final tune … one acoustic guitar and a handful harmonicas were all that was needed for the gravely-voiced Ragan to keep the attention of the few hundred that turned up.

Without a setlist taped to the stage, Ragan had plenty of material planned but was also happy enough to take requests from the audience which,  together, rounding-out a career-spanning setlist that covered everything from Hot Water Music to the new solo material from Till Midnight as well as a cover and an unreleased track from the upcoming “The Flame in the Flood” video game soundtrack.  An hour and fifteen minutes in Chuck thanked the crowd to call it a night, but the audience wasn’t going to let him off without one more song to which Ragan happily obliged.
