Anything that won’t sell, I don’t want to invent. Its sale is proof of utility, and utility is success —  Thomas Edison, inventor and industrialist

P1020781Way back in high school I got a 35 mm point and shoot camera that had a relatively short but useful life.  Small and compact yet able to take a decent picture, I soon found the perfect use for it … sneaking it into shows and chronicling  a small piece of the LA punk rock music scene.  The camera eventually broke and I lost interest in the scene as bands either broke up or changed their musical direction but I still held on to my passion for music and photography and have always appreciated the challenge of capturing the energy of a live music performance in a static and silent medium.   Twenty-something years later, I’ve decided to use this site as a forum for my work with the goal of capturing the moment and leaving the viewer with a sense of the concert experience.

I’m also a self-professed gadget geek.  I’m constantly amazed by the advances in digital media and entertainment and will also use this forum as an opportunity to share thoughts and provide commentary on what remains a dynamic industry with a future that is certain to hold its share of hits and misses.  My primary perspective is that of a consumer and a pragmatic one at that; I don’t buy the latest gadget for the sake of having it, but because I can see how it serves a real need for me.  However as someone who has worked in the industry, I think that the consumer needs to understand the business and technology realities in order to make an informed buying decision especially in light of competing standards and the ongoing risk of obsolescence (how many of you bought an HD-DVD player?).  It is at this intersection of the consumer, business realities and technology that I hope to share my insights.
