Metal Allegiance | January 10, 2016

Metal Allegiance brought their tribute to the roots of Metal (yes, that’s Metal with a capital ‘M’) to San Francisco’s Regency Ballroom. Featuring Mark Osegueda (Death Angel), Troy Sanders (Mastodon), Phil Demmel (Machine Head), Dave Ellefson (Megadeth), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Alex Skolnick (Testament) and Mark Menghi, the band of all-stars blasted through a set of material from their self-titled album of original material in addition to paying tribute to their roots; songs by Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Sepultura, Accept, Van Halen, AC/DC and of course Motörhead, were featured prominently during the nearly 2 hour set which kept the modestly-sized crowd (seriously San Francisco, where were you?) moshing and singing along to the classics. Surprise guests Will Carroll (Death Angel) and Jared MacEachern (Machine Head) even joined the band for a few tunes late in the evening.

Much more than a cover band, Metal Allegiance is a bunch of talented musicians having a good time and keeping the spirit of Metal alive. No doubt there should be a lot of Bay Area metal heads kicking themselves this morning that they missed last night’s fun.
